5 Ways That Your Home Influences The Success And Happiness In Your Life

1. Health: This is the most strongly documented area of research. Chronic fatigue syndrome, asthma and allergies are suspected to be related to chemical sensitivities from multiple household chemicals, including those products used for new buildings. Other research suggests malignant earth energies below the residence, such as radon, which is a by-product of uranium deposits below the surface.

Feng Shui has sophisticated mathematical models for determining the health risk posed by building design, as well as design cues that can indicate problems. One example is that lots of hanging items in a home can indicate serious depression. Another example is that plumbing is often linked to human “plumbing” and a building’s plumbing problems can be seen as affecting the energetic blueprint of a resident’s “personal plumbing”

Feng Shui is intimately aligned with Acupuncture and other Chinese healings, and a Chinese physician will often ask about home conditions of their patients, to determine if the Feng Shui of the home might be contributing to the current ailment.

2. Self-esteem: Our home is an extension of our self – our third skin. Do we take pride in our home? Does it represent our true selves, or all we could be? When forced to live in unsatisfactory dwellings, people become reluctant to “stretch” fully into their environment, always holding back. Over time, this takes a large toll on the human psyche.

3. Relationships: Why are there some homes where couples always seem to break up or where one partner is drawn to have affairs? Certain factors in the home may well have contributed, such as a beam on the bedroom ceiling “slicing” the bed vertically, or having too many doorways into a home.

4. Drive, determination and productivity: Personal levels of energy are hugely impacted on by building design. The design of the bedrooms and the kitchen are critical to empowering the occupants with high levels of energy that will give them success in their daily undertakings.

5. Family cohesion: Modern homes, particularly from the 1980′s onwards, have quite a different design than earlier counterparts. Families used to eat in the kitchen, in a defined space with minimal through traffic. Now it is not uncommon for the dining area to be separate from the kitchen, often placed in the flow of household traffic, with doorway to the porch.

Open plan design works against family cohesion because it encourages blurring of boundaries and discourages private space. Thus members often seek seclusion in their bedrooms, or outside the home altogether. Even television viewing is no longer a family event.

The question needs to be asked: does home design reflect society, or influence society?
